Highlights

People are always asking us what our highlights have been, but there are too many to mention. In short, we’ve absolutely loved every country we’ve visited, except perhaps Vietnam, which we loved a little less due to the number of scams people were constantly trying to pull on us.

Transportation

Our round-the-world ticket included 22 flights, and we’ve added in some low-cost short-haul flights too. The best experiences with airlines have been with Air Asia, LAN and Cathay Pacific. Our luggage has been lost twice, both times by Virgin.

Wherever possible, we try to catch trains. We’ve caught trains in India, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Peru. In every instance — except once in Vietnam — they’ve been a fantastic way of getting around.

Wherever possible, we love hiring motorcycles and travelling completely independently. Almost anywhere you go, somewhere will have a Honda XR250 to hire. We’ve hired bikes in Nepal, India, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Chile and Bolivia. Andrew crashed once in India (nothing too serious) and gave himself a nice permanent scar (”Ko Phangan Tatoo”) from the exhaust (from a XR250) in Koh Tao in Thailand.

Photography Equipment

Andrew is carrying: a Canon 5D Mark II, Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L, Canon EF 70-200 f/4L, Canon EF 50 f/1.4, a Canon 580EX II flash, a Slik Sprint Mini II tripod and a 13″ Macbook Pro. His carry-on luggage is way over the maximum 7kg!
